“Alderwood has that quaint and cozy magic. The grounds are impeccably clean as well as the cabins. All of the cabins are as described, each one unique and delightful. Thank you for your hospitality and for carrying on the tradition.”
“ I would highly recommend The Brick House! The house sits right on the lake with two docks to tie up our boat on. The provided kayaks were a ton of fun! The house itself is very roomy and yet, cozy at the same time, with beautiful views. The house is easily navigable for older folks or those with mobility limitations. Alderwood Resort was a fantastic host, always quick to respond, and very helpful. We had an amazing stay and hope to return next fall.”
“This resort was a lovely getaway. Perfect if you want to get away from the busyness of life, enjoy the outdoors, or spend undistracted time with your family. The grounds were well kept with a lot of activities to do just within the grounds itself. The cabin we stayed in had a great view of the lake and a screened in porch, which was great to relax on.”
As seen in a 1938 Chamber of Commerce Visitor Guide, Alderwood Resort was originally named "Chain O' Lakes Lodge or Chain of Lakes Lodge " and owned by Edmund Kmentt. The original red cabins are thought to have been built in the mid-1930s.
The property was purchased on October 27, 1944 by Edward and Cora Scotten and later renamed Alderwood Lodge. Pictures include Edward and Cora Scotten -- 1944 Real Estate Transfer -- Cora Scotten standing with sister Marie Cagney on a newly cut road into Alderwood Lodge -- 1946 Chicago Tribune Ads
From 1948 to 1988, Floyd and Baye Christensen from Necedah, Wisconsin owned Alderwood Resort as a family estate. Floyd was president of F.M. Reed Lumber Company with lumber yards in Necedah, Mauston, New Lisbon, and Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. Floyd and Baye married in 1919 and had three children Robert, James, and Patricia Holst. The families each had one of the cottages designated as theirs; Robert’s family (Bayview), James's (Lakeview), and Patty’s (Beachview). During the first years of Christensen's ownership, Alderwood was co-owned by George "Babe" and Lucille Speas, a Bartling relative.
In 1988, Peter and Michael Bartling, purchased Alderwood Resort along with 45 acres of wooded land to expand their family cranberry business. This expansion of their traditional cranberry farm was the beginning of an interest in local real estate investments.
